Honorific Society Awards – Scientific

Donald Metcalf Award

Metcalf

Established in 1999 in honor of Professor Donald Metcalf, "the father of hematopoietic cytokines," for his pioneering work on the control of blood cell formation, this award recognizes distinguished scientists in the field.

The requirements of this award are:

  • Current member of ISEH
  • Outstanding scientific contributions/achievements throughout their career
  • Outstanding contributions to one or more areas of interest to the Society
  • Active scientifically and able to have a featured lecture at the ISEH Annual Scientific Meeting.
  • Not a current member of the ISEH Executive Committee or Awards Committee.
  • Not a previous Metcalf awardee
  • Strong presentation skill

McCulloch & Till Award

McCulloch & Till

Established in 2004 in honor of Professor Ernest McCulloch and Professor James Till, this award is intended to recognize early and mid-career scientists with outstanding scientific contributions in the field of hematology and stem cells.

 

The requirements for this award are:

  • Current Member of ISEH
  • Early and mid-career - within 15 years* of becoming independent investigator 
  • Active scientifically and able to have a featured lecture at the ISEH Annual Scientific Meeting.
  • Not a current member of the ISEH Executive Committee or Awards Committee.
  • Not a previous McCulloch & Till awardee

*Exceptions for parental leave or career breaks will be considered

Janet Rowley Award

Rowley

Newly established for 2020 in honor of Professor Janet Rowley, a human geneticist and the first scientist to identify a chromosomal translocation as the cause of leukemia and other cancers, this award is intended to recognize early career scientists who have made outstanding scientific contributions to the field.

The requirements for this award are:

  • Current Member of ISEH
  • Maximum of 7 years* as independent group leader
  • Active scientifically and able to have a featured lecture at the ISEH Annual Scientific Meeting
  • Not a current member of the ISEH Executive Committee or Awards Committee
  •  Strong presentation skills
